Modern St. Ives has everything to offer the tourist, good beaches, magnificent views, an olde worlde feel to the village and harbour. There is still a fishing industry in St Ives, although it is only a small fraction of the size it once was, the beaches are ideal for families and surfers alike. The town has numerous cafes and restaurants to suit all tastes. Above all this St Ives has Art, art of all descriptions. There are many craft shops offering gifts to take home. The Tate Gallery in St Ives, in it's award winning building, offers exhibitions of art at its best. There are numerous other art galleries throughout the town and a Barbara Hepworth Museum, which is fascinating. For years St Ives has attracted artists from the early days when Turner, Whistler & Stickert arrived to more recent inhabitants, including Roger Hilton, Patrick Heron & Peter Lanyon. The number of working artists and craftspeople in St Ives is growing and this all adds to the artistic atmosphere of the town. |
